   Re: Car rental in London. 2 years ago. Enterprise, Alamo, Avis, Sixt, Arnold Clark and Hertz are some of the "big names" in UK car hire. £40 a day is relatively cheap though, I doubt you'll get anything for less and if you do I'd be very cautious! Avoid Green Motion and Easirent.

   By way of illustration. I just did a test reservation with Hertz, for 10 days out of LHR. A manual compact car (Ford Focus size) would be £150. A large manual estate (Passat) would be £540 and a people carrier (Galaxy auto) would be £605. Additional driver (s) and additional insurances extra.

It'll be a long and fairly tedious drive from the Cotswolds to York, so you could consider doing separate rentals from Oxford and York, getting a train between the two and returning to London from York, again by rail. Book 10-12 weeks ahead for the best fares.
