Re: ITA Old Matrix = my favorite way to research flights. Yes, the old ITA Software Matrix has been my go-to for travel planning. Google's Airfare Search just doesn't offer the flexibility to thoroughly research your options. Everything seems to get dumbed down when corporations take control of good ideas.

If the flights are all with AA or their codeshare partners, you can call them and see if they can do the booking offline.

Yes. It is my 'go to' and I recommend it to others. I am not a fan of Google Flights, because I am not from the USA, and I hate that it really pushes flight transfers from Canada via the US. Google Flights also doesn't show the same number of airlines as Matrix ITA...particularly the smaller local airlines when looking in 'foreign' countries.
9 years ago. As mentioned, ITA Matrix gives you the fare basis. Send or take it to a travel agent. They should be able to book the exact same fare (assuming the fare is still available by the time they try to make the booking).
Since posting the question I have discovered that ITA Matrix seems to save even the profiles of complex searches and makes them available via one of the tabs under "Recent Searches" towards the top of the search window. I haven't yet checked whether search profiles of any complexity can be saved.
