They were accommodating and friendly, upgrading us to a minivan at no extra cost, which made driving with guests comfortable for all.

The reason to prepay a rental is that it is rather cheaper to do it that way, not to negate them authorising a deposit on your card for security. If you return a rental car without a full tank then yes you will be stung, around €150 seems the rate at the moment.

Back from the trip, I did a bit of price-checking to find out that I still got a 40-50% discount for this class. All the people I met were nice and courteous; no problems upon drop-off, the driver even rushed us big time to the airport so that one of the passengers could make his flight. On day 3 of a week Hawaii vacation at a restaurant location, the rental car from Sixt did not start. After contacting the office, another car and tow truck was sent to site. Some time later after the Hawaii vacation was over, I received a towing bill($600+ for 35 mile tow).
Long story short: this company is a scam. Imagine renting a car, getting a pre-invoice but then, when you return the car, they charge you 50% more with a new pricing structure. When you try to get someone to explain why, well no one answers. But your credit card has been charged and they disappear.
