368 helpful votes. 1. Re: Driving through Kansas. 12 years ago. Save. If you are staying on I-70, I recomend visiting the Grassroots Arts Center in Lucas. It is a hoot. Also the Sternberg Museum of Natural History in Hays and the shopping and restaurants on Mass Street in Lawrence.

Salina has many more options for food and lodging. Both cities have a lot to do, though Old Abilene town is far down my picks.

Cabela's is out west where I-70 and 435 meet in KC Kansas. Take 435 south from Cabela's and loop around the edge of town to 35 south. Best wishes on your travels.
