It's much more than just looking at the statue. There are free one hour Ranger tours on both Liberty and Ellis Island. There are free half hour films on both islands. Sitting and resting for a while is good when you're doing a lot of walking. The museums on both islands are world class and easy to understand and follow along.
Lady Liberty. The Statue of Liberty monument and museum was incredibly interesting and 100% a must-see for anyone visiting New York for the first time. We opted for a free audio tour of the island and it was great learning about the history and facts of the statue itself. The museum was equally as interesting and very interactive.
