It's not so much for driving directions (I'll have GPS) as it is for me to be able to get a sense of the whole route and how much time it will take to get from A to B to C to D to etc. Google Maps caps your number of destinations at 25. Routexl.com will let you add 250 stops (!!!) but you have to pay money to get access to more than . . . 25.
9 years ago. I am mapping out a massive USA Road Trip and had my route drive times on the website: roadtrippers.com. A couple times seems 'long' to me so I went to google maps & all times were significantly shorter (yippee!). Went to mapquest.com & times were similar to Google Maps BU each leg of trip was 15-30 minutes longer on mapquest.

The essentials: TA forums for perspectives/trip reports, general TA & Yelp for listings of attractions, Google maps for routings and particular places of interest that may just show up along the way or nearby (sometimes I discover places that don't have much copy just when I see them show up on a map - I visited a scenic Buddhist temple in an unlikely Florida location after seeing it was close ...
Re: googlemaps vs roadtrippers. 9 years ago. I just did a route comparison for Google Maps & Roadtrippers using Anchorage to Seward (127 miles). Google Maps a duration of 2:31 while Roadtrippers was 3:43. Google maps is a straight comparison of if you drive the posted speed limit for the route given (no allowance for current construction ...
Google Maps has a great interface, but I find that Mapquest gives the best directions. Google and Yahoo maps are both heavily biased toward Interstate freeways, and they will often route you way out of the way on an Interstate rather than taking a more direct state road.
