Re: Accepted payments. 13 years ago. PR uses the US banking system. Just like at home. ATMs (ATH in PR) are all over. Credit cards are widely accepted. Pay at the pump for gas. Grocery stores, Walmart, Kmart, Walgreens etc. Report inappropriate content.

I'd take a close look at one in a store. If you don't see that statement, I'd jot down the Customer Service number and call before you buy one.

We will be visiting Ireland in September, and we have heard that the chip and pin credit cards might be needed to be able to use a credit card. We have a regular VISA card, and the chip and pin cards have yet to become prevalent in the US.

I've used Visa Gift Cards here in the states with no problem. We had American Express Travel Cards, which are just like a pre loaded gift card in Aruba for our honeymoon in 2005 and we had a very hard time using them. We were also instructed by our very-common-in-the-US VISA card company that in most instances of live transactions, our chip card should work fine. If a PIN is insisted on, you can punch in any 4 numbers for a PIN to allow transaction to complete.
