Not quite true - we can call 1-800 numbers from the UK, but we are charged. I do it all the time. I'm not sure about the other way round, though, as I can't remember if I've tried to dial an 0-800 from the US. At best, you'll be able to connect but will be charged; at worst, you simply can't connect. Sorry not to be of further help.

6 years ago. My two preferred methods of spending money in the UK are: 1. ATM machines that do not charge fees, this includes ATMs I have used at Heathrow T3, and yes, bank ATMS. 2. Credit card that does not charge foreign exchange fees. I try to never exchange cash for ££ in the US or at airport booths.
