For Alamo/National I use contract IDs that Visa issue every few months. Good for 20% off the base rate. Visa also releases coupon codes for free upgrades, a free weekend day, or $$$ off weekly rates if you're renting for 5 days or more. Of course, these are good when you pay for the rental with a Visa card.

I would avoid them at all cost. We arranged to rent a 4 wheel drive Jeep from NCR in St Lucia, having negotiated a discount of 15% off the standard price.On arrival at the airport we were met by a company representative, who told us that unfortunately the jeep that had been promised to us was not available for 4 days, and that the only vehicle available was an estate car.
