First- the customer service is awful. We waited in line for over 60 minutes to even talk with an agent then waited an additional 20-30 minutes for the car to arrive. The agent told me that extra insurance in Costa Rica is REQUIRED so I proceeded to get socked with more than $350 in additional charges above my $250 rental.

If the inside is dirty, they can charge $250.00. Ten minutes of vacuuming seems like there was more than a little dirt.

The cars exterior was not washed and the interior needed vacuuming. No one at the counter could help me and they referred me to customer service. I did not get reimburse for the cost and replacement for the new cabin filter. As a National Car Executive member I thought I would give Avis a shot. I made a mistake. The counter staff was slow.

Living in France, I have used just about every imaginable car rental company since I have never owned a motor vehicle.. Oddly enough, I have never rented from Avis, just for the simple reason that they are the most expensive. What makes it even stranger is that I worked at Avis for a year as a rental agent, and it wasn't a bad company.
