    7 years ago. You are misunderstanding it. Operated by means the airline that operates runs it (ie it is one of their own) EG. JAL operated by AA= an AA plane with AA staff and you check in at AA counter. Other way round --AA operated by JAL means a JAL plane, JAL staff, check in JAL counter. One of the problems with code shares is seat selections.
