What I don’t like about Hertz, they charge you each and every day of the rental, even if you never go through another toll. The max is $24 or so, but it’s just flat out wrong.

The hotel sites that offer AAA discounts have a place where you select AAA rate which is about 15% when booking online or will give the discount when showing up on the day.
The CDW from the rental car company directly is expensive and the costs really add up. I'm considering getting an annual plan from Allianz that includes rental car damage insurance. Most cards insist you decline all other insurances but in Italy the price of the rental includes some insurance so you can't decline it, which is why most cards don't cover Italian rentals ...
It appears there's no AAA discount on Hertz right now except for weekend and weekly rentals (I'm renting for 4 weekdays). Hertz has a 25% off discount coupon code, but it only allows one CDP code, so it won't let me enter my AAA information to get the free second driver.

Unfortunately we only have two weeks this time. The first week we will rent a car and plan to make a mini road trip in the surroundings of New York. As I said before, we don't have a definite itinerary yet, but we plan on visiting parts of NJ and PA (for example Delaware Water Gap) and the Catskills and Hudson Valley in New York.
I know awhile back when the Hard Rock Cafe was still open in town, my dad used his to get discounts on things (especially with suvioneers)...I know that that was way off topic but since that place took it, maybe other places would too. I do not know about if rental car agency's would accept it. I hope this helps somewhat!
