Dear Fellow travelers: just wanna share my personal experience of trying to book a flight through Kayak today.. the site took my credit card details etc, like a normal flight booking procedure... only that after pressing "confirm" it tells me that the booking is being processed by the airline and if I don't get any confirmation email please call the airline directly before making a new booking.

Kayak is my go to website for researching prices for flights, car rentals and hotel comparisons. Three years ago, Kayak sourced airfare via Expedia for British Airways/Alaska Air to Italy that saved a few hundred dollars. I could not get the same combination through the Airline website.
KAYAK (which does business as VAYAMA) uses Allianz for trip insurance. I took the bait and felt like my $1500 investment in tickets was protected. When the return leg of the trip was impossible because KAYAK routed through a country the traveler did not have a visa for, I felt relieved that I had purchased trip insurance.
As an example YYZ to IST 9/27 Kayak only lists Kiwi air for CA$869, but on same direct flight thru (turkish air ) price is CA $999 Turkish air not listed in Kayak. Same flight , but i suspect when i go to book with Kiwi the price will change to $999?
