You will most definitely need cash is some places, eg roadside food and drink stalls and some other small-scale establishments. Malls and convenience stores are all cashless. £100 is well over MYR500 and will likely be adequate.

    The first time I used a credit card in Malaysia in a hotel's restaurant, it was cloned and used for thousands of pounds worth of purchases fraudulently! This was many years ago and luckily my bank refunded my money and ever since I only use credit cards in reputable hotels.
