Region-free players are DVD players shipped without the ability to enforce regional lockout (usually by means of a chip that ignores any region coding), or without this flag set. However, if the player is not region-free, it can often be unlocked with an unlock code entered via the remote control. This code simply allows the user to change the ...
Regional lockout. A regional lockout (or region coding) is a class of digital rights management preventing the use of a certain product or service, such as multimedia or a hardware device, outside a certain region or territory. A regional lockout may be enforced through physical means, through technological means such as detecting the user's IP ...
VLC is one of the free software DVD players that ignore DVD region coding on RPC-1 firmware drives, making it a region-free player. However, it does not do the same on RPC-2 firmware drives, as in these cases the region coding is enforced by the drive itself, however, it can still brute-force the CSS encryption to play a foreign-region DVD on ...

The CSS license prohibits manufacturing of DVD players that are not set to a single region by default. While the same ...
Living in Europe, I have set my PC DVD reader to region 1 and kept my DVD player set to region 2. I would have a problem though if I would buy DVDs in the Cooks set to region 4. As I can only change the PC DVD region settings 4 times, it is not the kind of setting you can change back and forth.
