No bare shoulders - sleeves should be at least half way between shoulder and elbow. No bare midriffs, no low necklines. For men - slacks that cover the knees - and at least short sleeves.

    At holy site, for men and women alike, legs (nearly all) and shoulders need to be covered. No tank tops, and sleeveless shirts/blouses/dresses. Capris below the knee for women can work; personally, I would err on the conservative side. For men -- there exactly four men in the world who look good in capris. None of them is over 22 or over 140 lbs.

October can be very warm so you need to wear layers. Bring a shawl in case you need a cover-up. This is a very casual society.

    For sure the world shouldn't be that way, and everyone has the right to wear what they like where they like (in normal public spaces, not places of worship). But if you're on vacation here you probably want to have a good time and avoid hassle rather than make a point about freedom of dress. So yes - a little on the restrained side is a good thing.

    Everywhere else trousers (but not shorts) are fine. 4. Re: Dress code for holy sites. At the Catholic sites as well as the Holy Sepulchre and Church of the Nativity which are shared,most women wore capris, tees and sandals or sneakers. You don't have to dress up or wear a hat.
