Over the last couple of months, I have missed 5 connecting flights, and had to spend 4 nights at hotels in cities that have not been my destination, because of issues with AA flights.

Received a polited and comprehensive response to my original email yesterday. Don't like the answer, but the fine print is clear. Since we were not checked in a hour before the flight (internantional), our bags could not be put on the plane and schedule changes are our responsibility. $1,100 is a lot to pay for a lesson in reading fine print, but I probably won't forget.
