Avis charges $3.95 fee per rental day, plus tolls ($20 max) and they don't use a transponder, it is toll by plate.
I emailed AVIS right away about this fee and explained to them that I never used or having been notified of their toll service and the explanation I got from AVIS was "To request a copy of your E-Toll charges, please visit www.e-tolls.com. To dispute Avis E-Toll charges please phone 1-866-642-2000.
Hired a car from Avis. Just been billed for an e-toll convenience fee of $16.75 when the actual toll was only $1.30. At no point was this mentioned to me when I picked up the car. No joy from Avis customer service, so they've lost a customer for good. It's not the money, it's the principle of being charged over $18 for a $1.30 toll.

I'm aware that the Avis website states $19.75 as the charge possible for the entire rental period however a work colleague rented via Avis at Logan in May and was charged the fee ($19 or 20) each day of the rental.
