The reviews you saw are probably from supermarket that's pretending to be a part of the cargills chain. Yes, you get quite a few of them, around the country. There's even a 40 foot "Tescos" in Negombo.

The first Cargills Food City store I visited in Colombo was not the one at the York Street but the one at the basement of Colombo City Centre Mall. That new and modern supermarket impressed me with her lustrously bright interior design and spacious layout. The store occupied almost the whole floor of the basement.

2. Re: Cargills Food City. 9 years ago. You should be able to find other alcohol shops - locally called Wine Shops - in the area. I've seen about 4 Cargills stores in the Galle town. Three of them were just blatant ripoffs of the original store. Same signage, colours etc Not sure if this is the case around Hikkaduwa. Report inappropriate content.
