There are (to my knowledge) only two airlines in Europe that don't have carry-on weight restrictions, Easyjet and BA. AF is among the more generous airlines with its 12 kg limit, most airlines have limits below 10 kg, some as low as 5 kg.

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can confirm whether Delta has changed the size limitations for checked baggage (NOT carry-ons!) Their website now says 62 linear inches, but I (unfortunately) never paid attention to the size before I noticed this a couple of days ago. I always assumed you could check anything that fit on the plane.

Yes, there are always people who want to exceed baggage rules, which is why people may end up having to gate-check their carry-on bag when there is no longer any room in the overheads. Most airlines allow one carry-on and one personal item.

I've looked closely at Delta's T&Cs for baggage and found. "3. Size and Weight Limits for Carry-On Baggage Carry-on baggage may not exceed a maximum outside linear dimension of 45 inches or a maximum weights of 40 lbs." 40lbs is a lot for carry-on baggage, over 18kilos, so I'm happy with that!
The 23kg stated is the maximum weight of any single piece of baggage. The weight system is employed by many airlines outside North America, whereby you get 20/30/40 kgs of total baggage weight (all pieces added together). The piece system is often more generous in terms of weight, as many carriers limit baggage allowance to 30kg total.
I've got several Delta flights coming up in the next couple of weeks - will let you know how it goes. My main carry-on bag is 21 x 15 x 9 (within the 45 linear inches, but purchased before the industry started enforcing "dimensional" requirements).
