It would cost you like $9.55 + the $1 to get the two-ride regular card (with the 5% bonus). You can always find out when you get to Jamaica or Howard Beach.
I actually heard a girl at the desk of a tour bus tell someone 80% of their clientel are senior citizens or military. Weird that they don't do discounts. You can get a pretty good discount if you purchase the tickets online. They can be purchased from your phone even, you just have to be able to print the voucher.

You would have to purchase your tickets at the Visitor Complex ticket office and you need a valid ID. Regular Daily Admission is $50 and with the Senior discount you would pay $46. over a year ago.
