1. Re: Best time of year to avoid crowds Gatlinburg area. 5 years ago. Summer, Holidays and October are always very crowded and busy. We like to go in February to avoid all the crowds. You can also park for free on the parkway in February. About 2 weeks before and after any holiday is less crowded. Avoid the big car shows and you should be fine.
Eat before you go, walk there if you can. Jul 2022. We attended the July 2022 Gatlinburg Craftmen’s Fair. The $10 entrance fee was ok considering the quality of the vendors. Parking prices are outrageous (they are advertised as $8-20 depending on the event so they jack them to the top for this event).

Since that parking area is located close to the center of activities, it will probably fill up much earlier. Since traffic is so bad after the event, you may prefer to park where it may be easier to leave. Reply.
