Alamo, Hertz, Avis, National, Enterprise -- we mostly do one-day rentals from San Diego and return the car in Orange County or L.A. when we are getting on a cruise ship or flying out of LAX. We've used all of the major brands at various times and never had a problem.

There’s a really wide price difference between companies for one way rentals. I typically go to a website like Travelocity.com to compare rates between companies.
