Google Map France can also be downloaded for offline use. You just won't get live traffic. Map use doesn't consume a ton of data anyway. I have an old but still kicking Garmin as well. I still use it when I drive in foreign countries. I then use Google Map as a back-up, primarily for searches.

Therefore the drive time will vary based on time of day (i.e. commute traffic vs. off hours), any accidents, etc. We live close to Silicon Valley and no one uses MapQuest here anymore.
Google Maps will give you directions and times based on time of day. Lots of construction on I-90 northwest of Chicago. To avoid Chicago completely, take I-90 to I-39 to I-80. If you are not traveling during rush hour, take I-90 to I-294 to I-80. Also, get Waze on your phone.

1. Re: Google Maps Travel Times. Google Maps uses the speed limits along the route in its time calculations, so that doesn't account for stops for fuel, food, rest breaks, or for delays for weather, traffic, or construction. You can estimate delay time based on your own travel style, and recalculate accordingly.
