Re: Phone signal on the mountain. Cellular service is not reliable on the mountain. They did add WiFi as high as 12,000 so you may be able to use WhatsApp to make WiFi calls, but I wouldn't rely on that either. If you absolutely need phone service, you can rent a SAT phone prior to traveling to Tanzania.
That's really important. Even if you get a signal, it may not be strong enough to make a call. A text? Probably. A phone call? Maybe. A sustained phone call when you really need to make one? You can't count on it. Even if you had service at a certain spot on one day, doesn't mean that you'll have enough strength the next day. It depends on demand.
