On the Costco email confirmation you'll have the alamo confirmation number as well. You can look up your confirmation on alamo and put in DL, etc. so you can skip the counter.

   I did a quck search on Hertz (my preferred car rental firm) and was quoted £961 (around $1500) for a 24 day rental including the one way drop off fee and all the relevant insurance. You might want to get a quote from Hertz for your rental - I certainly think $4000 is over the top.
