   On Maui (3 days), Avis is just $30 more, but on the Big Island (7 1/2 days), the difference is quite a bit more. Right now we have reservaitons with Avis on Maui and Budget on Hawaii. Using the USAA discount code, these two were, by car, the cheapest of the major companies. I also checked AARP and other discount codes.

   4. Re: Car rental - budget vs Avis. 3 years ago. Budget at OGG is notorious for long waits due to short staffing. Avis is the same company, but they don’t seem to have as many problems. I think their customers might have first dibs on the cars over the Budget customers.

Still pretty happy with that - I paid almost $2K for a 10 day rental in Iceland three years ago. But that is Iceland and its super expensive (also super cool so its worth it).
