In those cases where the outlet is designed with 3, I've found I can use the single bottom prong (3.5mm) with my own headphones and it works well enough. As for size, the adaptor I have is a 2mm to 3.5mm adapter and the 2mm plugs into my headphones and the 3.5mm plugs into the seat plug-in. See below.
