29 helpful votes. Budget Car Rental Chicago Scam. Jul 22, 2024, 1:44 PM. Beware bait and switch. I prepaid a car reaservation on the Budget website for $283. Mystery car manager special for 3 days. Received email confirmation but did not open it. When I returned the car I was charged additiional fees to total $691. Complete bait and switch.
Reply to: Avoid Wisecars! It will destroy your vacation. Answer 1 of 20: This is the very worst car rental company I ever deal with! Booked a car 4 month ago and pre-payed 2000$, unfortunately my flight got delayed and called the wisecar to rearrange hrs before the pickup time.

It seems that they will provide you cars from the big rental car agencies but at no point will it tell you which company. They are $200 less than the cheapest rental I can find.
But, we went to the counter just outside baggage check. There was no wait and they acknowledged my reservation. Then took us and our luggage to the transport to the car location. Then we reviewed my reservation and gave a free upgrade, I added the required liability insurance. Go in the car and left. All within 30 minutes of picking up our luggage.
The car I did get in italy was through Budget, hired by Rental Cars. Budget billed me a substantial damage charge after I returned the car, and sent me pictures of damage under bumper. At the end of the story, my car reservation had been canceled, treated as a no-show after 59 minutes ! No car, forced to upgrade by paying 350 euros more (we had paid 100 to rental cars of course). We had informed the time of pickup (flight arrival) and had précised the flight number.
