THANK YOU everyone for all the info. It really helps to get on here and thinking things through after reading some advice. I have just finished briefly researching the Hawaiian Airlines miles program and it looks to be a good program for us, especially considering that our next several trips are to Asia/Australia/Oceana.

Put $1000 (pay off immediately) on the card within 90 days and receive 35,000 miles. Transfer the 35,000 miles to the existing Hawaiian account. Cancel new card before next renewal.
If you have flown interisland on Hawaiian, please be aware that the airline intentionally lies to and short changes their customers in regards to miles and segments earned. When I was achieving Gold member status last year, the membership information said that in 2013 I would earn 500 + 250 miles for every interisland segment.
