There is a section called "Check your eTA status." I can't check myself for another 2.5 hours or so but I will not be awake then. I think there are some options in one of the drop down menus for checking the status. I believe one of the options is for "check your eTA application" the other one is for "check your approved eTA."
My first application was from the government website, and the checking, I tried many times with the J number, and the V number for appropriate menus. Last week I submitted 4 x eTA applications online for myself and my family two months before we are due to travel to Canada for a holiday from the UK. My wife and kids’ applications all came back approved the same day, but mine still says “Not started” next to its status 5 days later.
