Whether you made a mistake or changed your mind, you can cancel your flight within 24 hours of purchase without penalty so you have more flexibility in making travel plans. That seems fairly simple. But, the process probably wont be as easy with Travelocity as it would be with the airline.

As a previous poster noted, Travelocity does not refund travel insurance even if you cancel your flight within 24 hours. However, the company issuing the insurance has a 10-day cancellation period for a full refund. Information on this currently appears on the last page of the on-line booklet that describes the travel insurance.

The FAA 24 hour applies only flights to, from or through the USA that were booked directly with the airline. They do not apply to bookings made through OTAs like Expedia, nor to flights wholy outside the US, such as intra-Europe. Expedia offers its own 24 hour cancellation policy, with its own requirements (which I am not versed on).

The law applies to the airline, and the airline must comply once a request is submitted before the deadline by whoever made the booking with the airline. The problem is that if you use a third party agent it's the agent that makes the booking and so requests the cancellation on your behalf.
Answer 11 of 13: I booked a flight through ebookers.com, a UK travel agent (I'm in the US). When I tired to make a change within the 24-hour window, I learned that they don't honor the US policy.
