It was confirmed to me by AVIS UK customer service and AVIS Italy ( PISA Airport ) on Sept 17/2015 that the deposit was 20% of the cost of the prepaid rental and the cost of a full tank of petrol. I returned from our trip to discover the AVIS airport rental in France had voided my oteoaid contract and arbitrarily charge my credit card 1,600 Euros for returning the car 1 hour late, when the late fee printed in the original invoice was 91.25 Euros per hour. I was told in August 8th I had to send an email to file a complaint.
The problem is that someone who has access to customer information used the copy of my DL and credit card to make an online purchase of $1360. I caught this when reviewing my bill. I called the merchant who confirmed that they were sent a copy of my DL and Credit Card and that the destination for the purchase was Cabo.
The multiple charges to our credit card were processed after we arrived home (Canada), and were substantially higher than what was invoiced when we returned the vehicle in perfect condition, which was acknowledged by Avis. 3 emails and 2 phone calls later, Avis CR has been unable explain the extra charges.
