It is too risky to use your credit card in Mexico these days at some of the restaurants. This is easier than travel checks.

You can take the Visa gift cards to the bank that issued them (or your bank) and ask to cash them in and then load them on a prepaid debit card for travel. Gift cards are usually only usable in the country that issues them. Amex is widely accepted in Cancun in many resorts, restaurants and shops bu tnot as common as MC or Visa. Cheryl
As ccgs2018 states in post #1, check with Amex for the card benefits. I use the Total Rewards Visa when visiting CET properties and the MLife Master Card in MGM properties. I also use a Gold Amex card tied to Delta Airlines. Check with Amex for the benefits on your card.
Answer 1 of 2: Does anyone know if i purchase a Visa Gift Card from Walmart or an Amex one if i'm able to use them in the US? I.E. I purchase one and don't use all of it and have $ left over.
We do accept American Express gift cards as a form of payment. Anything bearing the American Express logo will be accepted after verification of the balance. Best to phone 1-702-792-9222 and ask directly. Because we are from Canada, I wouldn't want to assume they do.
