She was booking a flight and car rental on Hotwire, push "Complete Order" button, the page never loaded, she never received a confirmation number but the charge appears as pending on the credit card. In the last few years, I have found the various websites as Expedia, Travelocity, Hotwire etc, clunkier and clunkier.
As stated previously, a credit for the amount of $76.83 was posted back to my credit card two days later by Hotwire as "return". I did not return it. In fact, here is the line on current activity in my credit card account. Return HOTWIRE-SALES FINAL -$76.83. As everyone knows, you can not cancel Hotwire reservation.

Made a reservation online to pick up a car at one location, and return it at a different location a week later. Entered all the dates, times, and credit card info.
Way too much time on hold and talking to reps and managers/supervisors and getting connected to same, disconnected (twice), stonewalled when I did get trough, stonewall e-mails.I will no longer do business with Hotwire and am disputing the credit card charge - and writing many, many reviews.
The Hotwire rate was about $7.00 per day, which seemed great, so I reserved the car. When I went to pickup the car in Cabo San Lucas, Thrifty insisted I needed to pay an additional $14.00 per day in personal liability insurance. They refused to rent me the car otherwise.I called hotwire from Cabo and they confirmed this.
