   Looks like they have two tiers of coverage. Most cards are in Tier 1 and offer coverage for cars with a new retail price up to $50,000. Tier 2 seems to only apply to Platinum and Centurion cards and covers up to $75,000. One big advantage of Amex is that they do not allow Dynamic Currency Conversion.

Car rental insurance and other add ons are a great money spinner for rental.companies. We have had some bad experiences in the USA too including being forced to take a huge daily toll pass package.

   They also have an add on that charges an extra fee (just when you rent a car and not yearly) that changes the 2nd party insurance to 1st party insurance with higher limits. Though they do have excluded locations where you lose coverage (not places I travel to ). I think it is like 9.99 USD per short rental and 14.99 for mid length rentals.
