It was launched in 1996 as the first commercial web mapping service. [1] MapQuest vies for market share with competitors such as Apple Maps, Here and Google Maps.

Google has partnered globally with over 800 public transportation providers to adopt GTFS (General Transit Feed Specification), making the data available to third parties.
As far as I can tell, Waze, Google, Mapquest, and many others have eliminated the ability to map driving directions using the shortest driving miles rather than driving time. Since, I never drive fast and hate patronizing interstates as much as root canal surgery, is there any free way to determine the shortest driving miles for a roadtrip?
9 years ago. I am mapping out a massive USA Road Trip and had my route drive times on the website: roadtrippers.com. A couple times seems 'long' to me so I went to google maps & all times were significantly shorter (yippee!). Went to mapquest.com & times were similar to Google Maps BU each leg of trip was 15-30 minutes longer on mapquest.
Google Maps has a great interface, but I find that Mapquest gives the best directions. Google and Yahoo maps are both heavily biased toward Interstate freeways, and they will often route you way out of the way on an Interstate rather than taking a more direct state road.

Haven't been on one for a few years and I'll swear I used to use google maps but for the life of me I can't get it to work the way it used to i.e. start points via place via place etc ...
