With most airlines, if you miss a flight on your itinerary the entire itinerary is canceled. Southwest is more flexible in allowing you to use the ticket.

    It all depends where you are going- any city has dangerous/sketchy areas- I had never heard of any issue on the DIA train. Likewise, switching at any light rail station is generally safe. There are security guards on many or most of the trains and light rails. Also- 10 PM is not 2 AM- still should be more people around.
