Re: Hwy 36. 18 years ago. US 36 is a very good road through Missouri (lots of 4 lane stretches) and most of Kansas. In Western Kansas, the route becomes less heavily traveled. Around the Norton area, there is a route which cuts South to I-70. I would recommend making the cut. fyi- I-70 through Missouri is a real pain.
368 helpful votes. 1. Re: Driving through Kansas. 12 years ago. Save. If you are staying on I-70, I recomend visiting the Grassroots Arts Center in Lucas. It is a hoot. Also the Sternberg Museum of Natural History in Hays and the shopping and restaurants on Mass Street in Lawrence.
Google Maps suggests a route on US-160 out of Colorado (through La Junta) and then into Kansas on US-50, KS-96, and US-40 (passes the outskirts of Wichita).
