Re: DVD player--what format in France. The TV format (PAL/SECAM/NTSC) is a non issue since you are talking digital. IF the DVD player is multi-zone compatible (plays region 1,2 or 3) it can play any DVD. Generally speaking you can only expect the DVD player in france to play Zone 2 DVDS (i.e. those bought in europe).
The region codes are ONLY an issue IF the DVD is coded with a region specific code. NOT all DVDs are coded: and it is usually impossible to tell if they are region coded unless the packaging states what region the DVD is coded for. I have bought DVDs on both side of the ocean and some of them work in AMS (and vise versa) and some of them don't.
