Unless you book your rental directly with Hertz, you don't get the privileges associated with Hertz Gold membership -- including the right to use the shorter line reserved for Hertz Gold members. But Hertz's prices often are significantly more expensive than the rates on third party sites like Priceline, rentalcars.com, etc.
12 years ago. Save. I rented a mid size SUV at Phoenix Sky for $13.00 per day in my husbands name through Priceline. I then signed up for Hertz Gold through AAA in my husbands name. I just called Hertz and because we used Priceline, we are not able to use the Hertz Gold perks like adding a second driver (myself) or skipping the rental line.
12 years ago. I joined Hertz Gold Club earlier this year while they were offering it free of charge, and made a booking for a car for my holiday last 2 weeks of April. Upon arrival at MCO I switched on my mobile and received an E-mail from Hertz stating which car I had been allocated and in which bay it was located.
The clubs are free, and go by various names - Budget FastBreak, Hertz Gold, National Emerald Aisle, Thrifty Blue Chip. I cannot stress this enough - even if it is just for this one rental, the time and aggravation you save at the counter will more than make up for the effort you use joining the club.

Yes, you should be able to join Hertz Gold, then enter your reservation # on Hertz website, and add your membership number to the res. To skip the line you’ll need to enter all your drivers license information and a credit card on your Gold membership.
Hertz has another program that's free, but I can't remember what it's called right now.My husband signed up for it before we went to Maui and it worked out great. We were on a separate line and only had one person in front of us, while the other line had about 20 people waiting.
With any of the Major Car Rental Companies, the best thing to do is sign up for the Frequent Renter Program, such as Hertz #1 Gold.Basically you do all the "paperwork" in advance at home, and in most locations, bypass the counter and go straight to your vehicle (Electronic Boards show which space it is located at), and then just show your drivers license to the Security Staff at the exit.
In my opinion it's an easy process, especially if you rent from Hertz and use their free Gold Club membership. Then, you just take the monorail to the rental car center, walk to the Hertz section of the parking deck, walk straight to the car that's already been assigned to you, and drive away. No need to talk to an agent or stand in line.
