Painted Canyon (also known as Slot Canyon or Mecca Hills hike) is a great loop hike that includes walking & climbing ladders through a slot canyon, beautiful panoramic views at the top of the canyon, and amazing rock formations and colours on the trail back down through the painted canyon to the parking lot.
Shopping in an old-fashioned downtown street. Dec 2020. Palm Canyon Drive is reminiscent of the downtown shopping districts that once defined postwar Americana before the suburban malls and Amazon ruined them. Enjoy tourist shoppes, Mid-Century Modern memorabilia and desert chic clothing stores.
Nice Hike to Waterfall. Feb 2020. Tahquitz Canyon features a short (1 mile each way) hike up a canyon to a 60 foot seasonal waterfall. The hike is somewhat uphill into the canyon but is not very difficult for most adults and kids. The waterfall is very pretty when running and the trail is well-maintained and well marked.
From the downtown area of Palm Springs, just go south on S. Palm Canyon Drive until you get to Indian Canyons- follow the signs. It's probably a 10-to-15-minute drive. I think there are brochures in town with directions, or if you have access to Google, you can get directions from wherever you are.
Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. Stretching just over three miles, these spectacular caves beneath the hills east of Nerja contain impressive stalactite and stalagmites formations. Discovered by accident in 1959, the cave has many well-marked routes, though not all are open to the public because of conservation and archaeological efforts.
