24 helpful votes. 1. Re: Avis - BEWARE - Unwarranted $250 cleaning charge! 3 years ago. Save. I feel that important details are being left out of this scenario. Read the contract. If the inside is dirty, they can charge $250.00. Ten minutes of vacuuming seems like there was more than a little dirt.
First- the customer service is awful. We waited in line for over 60 minutes to even talk with an agent then waited an additional 20-30 minutes for the car to arrive. The agent told me that extra insurance in Costa Rica is REQUIRED so I proceeded to get socked with more than $350 in additional charges above my $250 rental.
