We needed a vehicle to fit 2 adults and our 4 older (taller) teens and luggage. We rented through VAMOS RENT-A-CAR with pick-up/drop-off at the San Jose airport.

   NextCar Costa Rica. Mar 2024 • Family. We used NextCar & prepaid before our trip to Costa Rica. The process was easy & rentals for mid sized SUVs were around $400. They picked us up from the airport. However, then they proceeded to charge us over $800 for insurance. We felt scammed at midnight in CR after our flights.

We made a reservation at Budget Car rental at the San Jose airport a couple weeks back. However, recently while reading the review comments online, I noticed several negative comments and experiences.

   Re: SJO airport car rental. Apr 9, 2024, 11:52 AM. We rented a car at SJO from Adobe in April of 2024. I would strongly encourage people to consider NOT renting a car in Costa Rica. First of all, it is terribly expensive. I rented a nice, BMW convertible in Maui last year for far less than I paid for a small, lousy Hyundai in Costa Rica.
