That route would be I 25 south to I 40 west.

The Mapquest options are: (1) I35 North to Duluth to US 53 S to US 2 to WI 13 (2) I94E to US 64 N The first option is mainly Interstate, not my favorite way to travel, but it does appear that after Duluth it may be a scenic drive along the lake. The second option is primarily through WI, going throug a national forest and an Indian Reservation.
Re: Hwy 36. 18 years ago. US 36 is a very good road through Missouri (lots of 4 lane stretches) and most of Kansas. In Western Kansas, the route becomes less heavily traveled. Around the Norton area, there is a route which cuts South to I-70. I would recommend making the cut. fyi- I-70 through Missouri is a real pain.
