I've joined 'Hertz Gold' membership and booked my car rental via the official Hertz phone line and have prepaid for the car on my credit card. They have my credit card details on file already. I am picking up at SLC airport and dropping off at SF. The rental is in my name. But I will be sharing the driving with my (same-sex) legal spouse.

3. Re: HERTZ - unjustified charges to credit card DO NOT USE THEM. They can process the additional charges without notifying you - you allowed this when you signed the contract. Every other rental car company does the same thing so changing firms will not change the outcome if you get a ticket while driving in Italy.

Car was booked and paid for almost 12 months in advance and unfortunately my Credit Card company had replaced my Credit Cards with a new style credit card. Because of this (even though I had all the pre-payment documentation and replacement credit card) they refused to honour the agreement.
