Nov 2, 2023, 1:36 PM. Hertz used to be good, but it's reputation has taken a hit. Last year it was fined US$168 million for sleazy business practices, and a corporate culture like that doesn't go away very easily. I haven't heard of any scandals regarding Alamo, not that I've been looking for any.
Just wanted to echo these views - just hired a car from Alamo LAX for 15 days. Very reasonable rates, incredibly helpful staff (thanks Ray at the desk and Rayle with the GPS help), very quick to pick up/drop off, rapid shuttle service back to the airport with a helpful driver and a terrific car.
Answer 1 of 11: Heading to LA next week and rented an intermediate car for a week through the travel agency at alamo. Anyone knows how much upgrades will be more or less cost a day (SUV etc) and if there is room for bargaining?

You should look at Alamo's site for what they say about a debit card rental. The site will tell you how much of a hold they will put on your card in terms of dollars. You can call their 800 number as well to get that info.
Answer 1 of 3: Hi all ! Would like some feedback on Alamo car hire. I'm a solo mum traveling with 4 children. I was reluctant to hire a car on our trip as I don't own a credit card and I've never driven anywhere other than Australia.
