Other than the exchanges at Logan and Routes 1 & 60, the drive to Maine is a breeze. I-95 is a good road. Give it a Google. There's even a site that tells you what's at each exit/rest area. Speaking of Google, if you use Google Maps (or Bing) for that matter, you can switch to a street view and take a preview drive of your route.
The GPS is of most use when your passenger cannot use a map or you are driving alone. The GPS will get you from A to B, but will not show you that by altering your route slightly you could pass a castle or drive over a bridge into a forest for a break. Report inappropriate content. fuchsia2014.
Re: Travelling from Monterey to Hearst Castle via Highway 1. 14 years ago. It will be getting dark around 5:30 pm on Sunday, so probably best to head back to Monterey around 4:00 pm. I find the southern half of the Big Sur drive to be the most tricky. Most of the tight hairpin turns and narrow sections of highway are on that south section.
There is a Hertz at N. Decatur and Scott Blvd and I believe you could take the shuttle from Emory so check on that. Google Emory Cliff Ride and check on the schedule for the route to N. Dekalb Mall-Barton Way stop. We use the Enterprise in the Emory Inn and Conference Center but they have more cars with NAV at the airport.
