   We were delayed by about 5 hrs, where if we had flown through DEN, would have had zero issues. Closest to a complaint was a few gates being changed, but just had one flight assigned to 3 different gates at ORD, plus our plane being given to ORD - DEN, when theirs broke (at ORD), and a 1:30 delay. Guess we have just been fortunate.

7. 45 min layover at DEN on United. Is that enough time?

If you're using the same airline 45 minutes between gate to gate is adequate & probably not a concourse switch but assuming your first flight arrives on time or no delays on the tarmac. If you're flight is late that airline is responsible for reconnecting you. If you have a choice for a longer layover it's a safer bet.
