   The reason for cheaper direct hotel booking vs. Priceline/Expedia/OTA is that instead of being frienemies, now hotels v OTA are outright enemies )). Hotels are much more aggressive now in trying to get you to book directly, so they don't have to pay 10-20% commission to Priceline et al.

   I've been looking for a hotel near Yosemite. Yesterday, I see the room I wanted on Priceline for $110..... about $40 per night less than what I had been seeing on the hotel website. I check the hotel website and see the room is not even showing available. Back to Priceline..... $40 over 3 nights is a $120 savings. The rate is non-refundable.

These time share presentations have been around forever and it sounds like the high pressure sales techniques have not changed all that much. The moral of the story to me is don't expect something for nothing.
